When a former client contacted us about a second phase of work at her Lafayette home, we agreed that our Reinvent Your Room service was the best match for her goals.
The project entailed new furnishings, paint, and accessories for the family room and the primary bedroom, and a quick timeline was a priority. Our client likes to take a hands-on approach with her projects. She looked to us for a holistic vision to update her spaces in a California rustic style, but she wanted to implement the design herself.
The big move in the family room was to paint the shelves that flank the fireplace a deep shade of blue. The rock fireplace surround was preserved but given a lighter appearance with a whitewash stain and a streamlined mantle.
The furniture we selected is durable for the grandkids and flexible for entertaining. Comfortable seating and plenty of task lighting was a priority for our clients who use the room for media entertainment and reading when it’s just the two of them.
In the primary bedroom, the clients had purchased night stands and a lounge chair that they wanted us to incorporate into the design. For new purchases, we focused on organic shapes and natural materials to emulate the calming effect of the natural environment surrounding the home. For the pan ceiling, we selected a neutral grasscloth covering that adds depth and gives a warm glow to the entire room.
To create a focal point across from the bed, we sourced artwork from Etsy and a console table with caned-front drawers. We made an inviting reading nook in the corner by adding a few decorative touches like a reading light, an accent table, and a cozy throw blanket to an existing chair and ottoman.
One of the things that clients appreciate about the Reinvent Your Room service is that we often integrate existing pieces into the design. It’s not uncommon for clients to come to us when they have inherited something, or made a new purchase, and are unsure how to proceed. This approach aligns with an office-wide goal of careful consumption, and we enjoy the challenge of developing a design that starts with a personal story.
