Mark your calendar for the upcoming San Francisco Fall Show at Fort Mason from October 3 – 6. The themes this year is: Wanderlust: Around the World with Art, Antiques, and Design, and the show will encompasses a wide range of art, antiques, furnishings, and decorative objects spanning styles from the 17th century through the mid-20th century. It benefits Enterprise for Youth, a nonprofit organization that helps youth explore career opportunities, and gain hands-on experience through partnerships with local businesses.
Over 50 dealers from around the world will be displaying unique pieces that bring history and soul to whatever room they occupy. Today on the blog, I’m sharing a few of the dealers that I’ve enjoyed getting to know in past years, and who I look forward to seeing again this year.
Last year I discovered the work of Bernat Klein through the Henry Saywell Gallery and learned that later in his career, Klein designed textiles for fashion houses such as Coco Chanel. I love the interdisciplinary nature of design and can imagine how a painting like the one above could inform the design of a Chanel tweed.
These carved wood objects are from Galen Lowe Art + Antiques, based in Seattle and specializing in Asian and eclectic objects of art. These are actually tools historically used by plumbers, but look amazing as a collection of sculptures, highlighting the natural beauty of carved wood.
I had a lovely conversation with Stephanie from Carlton Hobbes, and look forward to stopping by her booth again this year. But what I really want to do is visit their New York gallery! Stephanie shared photos of it with me, and the space is as exquisite as the European 17th – 19th-century antiques and art they sell.
The Montgomery Gallery is just one of several San Francisco dealers who display at the SF Fall Show. Their works of 19th – 20th-century fine art is varied, but this piece by American artist, Helen Rousseau (1895 – 1992) called ‘Pink Sails’ may have been my favorite from the whole show.
Another feature of the show to look forward to are the designer vignettes. Last year’s theme was The Sun, The Moon, The Stars and the Zodiac, with the Moon represented by Madeline Stuart, featuring custom hand-painted wallpaper by de Gournay.
De Gournay will once again partner with the designers for this year’s vignette theme which is A Compass Rose: North, South, East, and West. Designers to be featured this year are Alessandra Branca, Veere Grenney, SagreraBrazil Design, and Hutton Wilkinson.
Be sure to check the show schedule for an impressive lineup of lectures and book signings, and it never hurts to time your visit to catch a sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge!
